Hi all

First like to say hello

I have just inherited my father in law’s 2008 Fusion 1.6TDCI

Its only got 45k on the clock and just got it thru the MOT after a couple of bits I needed to sort.

Started to use it for work this week and was ok Monday and Tuesday but today the Powertrain light came on once on the way to work (a 20 mile trip) and once on the way back home.

I just stopped and restarted and the warning light resets automatically so I guess we have an intermittent fault?

Even thought it resets would the PCM store the original fault?

Any advice welcome

Many thanks in advance and have a good Xmas all Alan.

Hi welcome

Our standard advice is to use Forscan (cheap OBD readers don't pick up Ford specific codes):
https://forscan.org/home.html

You are correct that switching off sometimes clears the codes.

@unofix always says:

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

OR

For diagnostic use only:

I'm tending towards Bluetooth & phone for convenience as only difference is you can't programme.

All The Best and let us know how you get on!

(Perhaps make a new re-post in the Fusion Club area when you come back as this is introductions area and a messy forum make us unhappy)

Edit: As Santa brought a Bluetooth adapter, the only other thing you can't do is Control mode i.e activate parameters using Forscan rather than the switch or normal ECU  processes e.g testing fan or lights etc.
