One touch drivers side window forgetting up position monthly

Featured Replies

Hey,

I’ve got a 2021 Ford Focus (MK4 hatch, ~20k miles) and every 4–6 weeks the driver’s window loses the one-touch “up” function. It still works fine manually, but auto-up stops working until I reinitialise it.

Relearn procedure fixes it immediately (down → hold, up → hold), but the issue comes back again after a few weeks.

I’ve scanned with Carista and consistently get:
- B118F-01 – Right Front Window: General Electrical Failure

If I clear the code, it comes back immediately even without operating the window.

I also previously had:
- B12DC-92 (anti-pinch/calibration related from what I can tell), but that hasn’t returned after a relearn.

Other observations:
- Window movement is smooth, no sticking, no bounce-back
- One-touch works fine after relearn
- Issue sometimes appears after switching the engine off
- Battery is new
- Cleaning the window channels made no difference to the fault code

I’ve got a FORScan OBD adapter on the way, but in the meantime Has anyone seen B118F-01 behave like this on a MK4? Also Does this point more towards regulator/motor feedback vs DDM/BCM calibration/software?

Appreciate any help as any searches do not come back with anything

I have this exact same problem. Drivers window only, none of the others. And I get the same, general electric failure.

It is hard to clear. I find instead of clearing all codes, just select DDM and clear that. Seems to work. But like you it only lasts a few weeks..

I have used forscan to initialise window and also done the hold up, hold down, hold up, etc at least 4 times in each direction

I am in the middle of experimenting, but it seems that it has something to do with having global close set to "single press" rather than "press and hold" in forscan. I'm going to go back to press and hold, and see if that makes any difference.

I'll be very curious what it is if you resolve it

2021 is still fairly new, but I would be tempted to see if a software update on the DDM (and PDM to match) would cure this.

Or your battery is on the way out

Is there a way I can check DDM or PDM? Or ford only?

I’m out of warranty and ford wanted £160 to look at the car and that wouldn’t include any software updates

Battery is about 6 months new (but it’s the same stock battery). I’ve had a couple of “low battery” power warnings and I’ve changed SOC to 95% but think it can be possibly lack of use? I have no ability to charge the car battery at my place nor the ability to take it to a friends

You have a perfectly good car. Drive it around a town for a couple of hours and be on a trailing throttle wherever you can.

Definitely battery.

Fit the next capacity battery up from the one that is fitted and not a Ford battery and see how you get on.

Fully charge the new battery before fitting and make sure you reset the BMS.

You've already change SOC to 95% so it must be how much equipment your using vs how little use the car is getting

Sorry the change to SOC was done the other day so will see how it lasts! Also I ran a service procedure in forscan so see how it goes

Just wondering why does the battery only affect the drivers door and not the other doors?

If you'll be staying there long term you could look into a powerbank. I use the older version of this one along with a normal mains charger to charge batteries without cable access. Not cheap, but if you have to keep replacing batteries due to lack of use then that'll get expensive over a few years.

It probably needs a software update as well

Just to confirm that it will need a garage to do that?

Ford, yes

It will need, at least, both doing. PDM & DDM

  • Author

That's pretty annoying but fair enough. The quote I got from the garage exceeded the price this bothers me

PDM & DDM flash should be no more than one hour labour, they take about 5 minutes each

I’ve already asked. They want to do diagnostics first which is also a hour

Sod what THEY want to do. You are the customer. Tell them that you want the two modules flashed and refuse the diagnostics.

  • Author

Yea lol sadly if they are refusing to box me in for a software upgrade without diagnostic there isn’t much I can do

There is. Tell them that you wish to speak to the service manager. If ye spouts on about"Policy" tell him that if the policy is to rip the customer off, you will take the matter up with trading standards.

Bit of an update - had a OBD battery reader on the car and can confirm that the battery did not lose voltage, yet the door auto up went again

Appears to be at closer look that someone previously had changed the switch. This car however did at one stage have window air deflectors previously

You may have a poor connection to the door that’s causing the door module to lose power? That can be a cause of losing your one-shot setting till you reinitialise the window again.

Door connection at the A-pillar could be good starting point, compared to other systems on the car you’d likely not notice anything while driving and unlikely to generate an error code either

  • Author

I’m half tempted to pop the door trim off and just check and clear any contacts with IPA

What is odd however is that the “down” works and other doors work fine

I have previously seen bad ground error (just a generic one) on ForScan for the drivers door

Just wondering, are there any other connections in the door?

Bit of an update - checked all connections and all okay. However I noticed that the "bounce up" was still occurring on the drivers side window and not the rest.

after a few attempts and some cleaning with silicone spray (and cleaning the channels again) I've got the cloth to stop coming out black and the bruce back doesn't seem to be occurring now.

Will see if that has any impact on the window.

It's one of those things that only annoys me as I have to unwind my window twice to get Into office parking

  • Author

Bit of a weird update.

Refused to do it again when I got home. Left the window down and went to get my laptop and OBD adapter. Got back about 15 minutes later and tried again and worked first time... No programming no nothing....

Going to be honest this has totally confused me
