Second hand alternator replacement - which are compatible?

Featured Replies

I’m looking to buy a second-hand alternator for a 2015 Ford Fiesta 1.25L. There are several listed on eBay, but they all have different part numbers, so I’m unsure which one would be compatible. Do all Fiestas use the same alternator as long as the voltage and amperage match, or do the alternators vary depending on the engine?

Is the 6/09 on my alternator the manufacture date? If it is, then I suspect the previous owner has installed a faulty second-hand alternator from 2009, since this car is a 2015 model and it likely isn’t the original.

My current faulty alternator (FYI it has a single pin for the smart charge connector in case that matters):

As mentioned I'm not sure this is the original alternator because 6/09 is mentioned on the label. If this is the date code of the alternator then I assume it has been swapped by the previous owner because it's a 2015 car. Meaning, I don't know what the original alternator's part number was.

Yes, that's the date code, so you are correct it's already been replaced once.

The alternators are different for different engines and different trim levels and options so you do need to stick to the correct number. I suspect your original was AV6N-10300-HA and would have no problems fitting a replacement with that number.

Thanks for clarifying and providing the P/N @TomsFocus.

I suspect sellers specify the year of the car rather than the year of the alternator manufacturer date because I can see lots of mismatched listings on eBay. For example "Fiesta 2013" in the title but 13/15 date code on the alternator label.
