Focus Mk1 Speed Sensor Removal Help Needed

Featured Replies

Hi all,

i really need some help with removing my speed sensor on my gearbox of my 1999 ford focus 1.6.

I really need someone that has removed one before so they know what im on about i think.....

I am having issues with removing the old sensor from the gearbox. it is held on by a clip and also what looks like to be a pin that runs through the clip visible on outside the gearbox, and then into the gearbox into a groove on the sensor inside the gearbox holding it in firmly.

I am having great difficulty getting this pin out, i think i have snapped the part of the pin thats visible off. What i can see now is like a tiny tube coming out the gearbox where the pin goes through, i have been trying to pull this little tube thinking it was the pin but now im not sure if its the pin im pulling on or a tiny tube the pin goes through????

Does anyone know what i am talking about???

Is my only option now, to drill the pin out????

If i do drill it out will i not be allowing shavings of metal to fall into the gearbox?? That clearly wont be good.

Can anyone help me out??

Im getting really frustrated with this now...

Dan.

i know what you are on about, i snapped the end of my pin too. What you are seeing is the pin itself not the sleeve. I had to snap the side of the actual speed censor so that i could grip the end of the pin with a set of mole grips then with much trouble kept pulling and spraying with gt85 it took ages riddiculousley hard, the problem i have now is getting the censor itself out, i just cannot budge it any tips would be much appreciated

yea those speed sensors are a pain to do, once the pin is out and it can take a long time to get it to come out the best way is spray with wd40 or similar then id can suggest is a pair of mole grips on the sensor itself then hit the mole grips with a hammer, fiddly but does work, however if the sensor breaks then the gearbox will need taking out and stripping down

hope this helps
