Revs when starting the car

Featured Replies

Hey all, when I first start my car in the morning (mk6 2003 fiesta ghia 1.4 16v) the revs jump up to about 1500-1600 for a few seconds and stick at around 1200 for a little bit before dropping down to 7-800, is this quite normal.

Also not sure the best way to describe it, you know the sound a turbo makes when you change gear (i think its a turbo) like a popping or whooshing sound, if i push down the clutch in my car and change gear and pull the clutch out quickly it makes a similar sound, any reason you can think of?

Thanks Guys, Adam.

The revs will be high when you first start the car in the morning if it's cold then as the engine warms up the revs will drop to approx 750RPM.

Not too sure about the clutch though, unless some noise from the hydraulics? ( i think the mk6 has a hydraulic clutch?-never needed to look at mine yet! )

*Just had a look at > fiesta mk6 clutch and one of the posts mentions the mk6 has an electromagnetic clutch ??

Cool cool - 'electromagnetic clutch to help MPG'.... never helped my car lol!

When you say it sounds like a turbo, do you mean the turbo whistle or a dump valve sound?

  • Author

Dump valve sound I would say.

Has someone fitted one of those electronic dump valves to the car?

If they have please please please take it off!

Mine also revs first thing and the two fiestas before did the same.I did hear or read that this is the norm on the fiesta.

The revs being high when the enginge is first started in the morning is quite normal as long as its not for a long period of time.

As for your noise when changing gear it could be that theres a fake dump valve fitted  as Rikos suggested.

How tacky are they, they dont even sound like a dump valve, more like a duck farting pmsl

 You can just tell there's a chav driving when you hear one of those

My friend had one fitted to his car. I slagged him rotten for it till he removed it a week later

Don't get me wrong I love the sound if a good dump valve :D but you can tell the fake ones from a mile off :P

I was once convoying to a show with some mates. 2 of em had em (in their 40's I add). I drove off and left them behind. So embarrassing
