Does your car have the standard Ford radio fitted or is it an after market stereo ?

Hi Graham thanks ford taking the time to reply. It's the standard radio. When I press the number 5 on it or turn sharply left or right it's switches of for a second or two then come back on? Do you think it has something to do with that??

If it goes off when you turn left or right it would indicate to me that something may not be right with the wiring in the steering column.

Erm, the controls have never worked since I bought the car. On a separate issue the radio switches off when I turn left or right. Do you think these two separate issue could be linked to each other. Can it be as simple as the remote lead is not connected to the back of the stereo? Is that where the power for the steering controls come from?

you will need to pull the stereo out to check the wiring, it sounds like something has come adrift at the back.
