01 Focus Diesel Timing

hey guys bought a 01 focus diesel that some idiot had already toke the head off, my probem is know i have it al built up,its hard to start and once started the idling is rough and there is very little power off the engine. so i went back to re timimg the pump and the way autodata says to time it with a 6mm drill bit through a wee hole, but there is no wee hole in the pump, but there is a very large hole! any help welcome

    i also have a copy of autodata & it would seem that there is supposed to be a small hole in the front sprocket,

    into which you should insert 6mm drill bit.
