Replacing gearstick gater

Hi all. I'm new to the forum and have a problem..... I have got a Ford Fiesta ST 07 plate and I have just bought a new gear stick nob and replaced the old one no problem, but I have purchased a new gater but can't see how to take the old one out, can anyone help me please - lady in destress!!!!!! :unsure:

    At the base of the gater is a silver ring.Put your fingers either side of the ring and pull upwards.It should come out easily.You will have to take the nod off again to remove the gater completley.The gaiter and ring will part easily.
