Test Tdci Diesel Pump

hi all

to continue with my poor mondy

my next door neighbor is a mechanic and he said my diesel pump is on it way out

i started the car and he listened down by the alternator and he said 2 beeps can be heard and like a his and means pump is going? his dads car did the same

is there any indication of pump failing

is there any test i can do see if it is this thats my problem

looking at how to remove the pump do i need a tool to hold the pump sprocket in place or is there another way of doing it
