Rear wiper and heated rear window

Featured Replies

I have noticed that whenever I put my rear wiper on to clear the rear window it automatically demists too without the need for me to switch on the heated rear screen button, anyone else noticed this?

nope :) but mine is broken atm

yeah noticed that, little clever ford brains working hard again! haha

Can't say I've noticed that on mine - maybe it's only on the higher spec models?

I realised I dont even know where my heated rear switch is as I have not needed to use it yet because I just clear front and rear windows when I finish work late in the evenings and it does the demisting for me.

Hi there

Did you notice this on a cold morning? Below 5C? I think the way it might work is that when the outside temperature gauge reads below 5C (the temp at which you get the amber light on the dash), the rear screen is automatically activated for a short period. I thought it was the result of putting the quick clear windscreen on but the following day the rear screen came on automatically without quick clear being on. I don't think I was using the rear wiper at the time but I can't be sure.

The next morning after that, the rear screen was still misted up and I had to press the button manually in the end. Pretty sure I was using the rear wiper as it kept misting up on the outside and I couldn't understand why the screen wasn't clearing like the day before. That's when I checked the temp gauge and it was over 5C.

I'll check to see if it's related to the wiper action if it's cold again tomorrow.

Thanks

Can't say I've noticed it but I suppose I'll just have to pay more attention........

What colour did you get and are there any pictures of it?

I don't think the heated screen comes on automatically below 5 degrees though but again it's not something I've watched closely! ;)

Tonight on leaving work my amber snowflake was on so I know it was quite cold, both windscreen and rear window were covered in a light frosting - just enough to look wet but when wipe goes across it slightly freezes, I purposly sat tonight and flicked the rear wiper once and watched, sure enough it automatically demissed it for me. Will have to wait until I have wet back window with higher temp to see if it works then too.

Hedgepig - I have frozen white and there is a thread from me introducing both the car and myself with pics.

I haven't noticed mine doing it. I cleared the rear window several times today, and didn't notice it demisting, fairly sure it didn't, but then again, it was a lovely day out today, around 15 degrees, so I'm thinking it only does it under the 5 degree mark when the amber snowflake is on? who knows, but I will watch closely now, it's got me wondering, this board is great for causing wonder!! Lol.

Today I had a good excuse to try this theory out, it was teaming down with rain and I was waiting in the car for my son to finish school, the car got very misted up, so I looked at my temperature gauge and it was showing 9 degrees, stuck my rear wiper on and nope nothing, it didnt demist it at all and I needed to put the heated rear window on. So there you have it, it works when the amber snowflake is illuminated only.

Just shows how boring and sad my life has become lol

Hi Michelle

Thanks for persisting and testing out my theory (I must be sad and boring too as I sat there for ages trying to understand how it was working, lol!)

I have to say that apart from the gearbox whine (see my other recent thread), I'm thrilled with the little Fiesta. It does some really clever stuff that our other car just doesn't do!
