Gearbox Slap

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have a 2006 2.2 Titanium diesel & have noticed when driving in narrow built up streets when you can hear your transmission I have noticed a slap like a shaft worn when accelerating or de - accelerating. Is this a common problem & does it need repairing & what would be the cost.

There is a mount at the back of the gearbox that wears out - it can make a noise like you describe, and is a common problem - this happened to me too - i bought a secondhand one on ebay for £30, and fiffed it myself, i got an x-type v6 3.0L jag one as they are supposed to be stiffer (and it was cheaper than the Mondeo ones!) (x-type Jag and mk3 Mondeo are basically the same car with a lot of parts in common)

its in the middle behind the engine and looks like this -
