Mondeo V6 Flat No Power

Featured Replies

Hi All

Newbie on here - I have my Mondeo V6, 2.5 Zetec S 6 speed on a 54 plate, just turned 94k. recently when accelerating there is no power 0-60 in around 20 secs lol.

when it gets to around 3.5-4000 rpm the v6 roar is there but only the sound no lift in power????

I just replaced the plugs, leads and coil pack - cured the slight miss it had, not the lack of power - I also checked the IMRC hot and cold and the unit is functioning ok? no rattling from the exhaust either so not convinced the cat is at fault either - doing my head in here.

any ideas?? HELP Please

Sounds like cracked hoses or pipes, sounds like the air is going in, maybe even the fuel but not mixing and combusting properly.

when was the fuel filter last changed? if i remember right its under the car roughly in line with the back seats.

You should get the codes read/ invest in a code reader

How slow is it really? like totally gutless/ wont climb hills unless you are in 3rd or just feels a bit down on power? - was it quick before and you suddenly noticed a lack of power, or was it more gradual

As above, the breather pipes and or PCV valve can crack / split over time, this can draw air that is not measured by the MAF sensor, making the engine run lean, thus loosing power and causing a large flat spot/ making the midrange flat spot worse, it can effect one or both cylinder banks - so worth checking those hoses

Some days, my car seems slow, even though everything else on the road seems like its going backwards, - it can be subjective/ deceptive and different people have different ideas about what "fast" is

totally gutless, when on motorway in 6th at around 70-80 and hit a hill the car roles back to 50-60 and have to drop gears to get the revs back up.

When you accelorate and hit around 4k revs, you can hear the V6 roar but no substance behind it doesnt pull ive had around 5 v6 mondeo including 3 st's and this just doesnt go like them, im working away and will need to check a few things at the weekend including the hoses again they all looked ok previously - codes been read previously on hand held and computer, we highlighted a miss and changed plugs, leads and coil pack which resolved this issue but still flat, and no codes were logged EML light never been on.

i have also been advised to check the CAT but again no noises or rattles from it...?
