My brand spanking new 11 year old fiesta

Picked it up this afternoon, i am very very happy with it. Dad says that is drives very well, he got it up to 6000rpm on the main road near us and it didn't argue with us so we are happy

My test is a week on tuesday, i am so excited !! I haven't driven it yet and won't for a while, i have to save up some money for the insurance first but my Dad reassures me it is a very nice car. Before then i shall be driving the pictured Kia Picanto until monies are saved. But i have cleaned it and can recommend Halfords back black clean, it makes the bumpers shine !

I have a few jobs that need doing on it

*get rid of rust on right passenger door sill

*replace rear view mirror

*possibly replace right front wing

*deep clean the interior

and anything else that arises

Good luck for Tuesday week and Michelle's quite right--you always remember your first car--mine was a mini and I was just as excited then as you are now.

Just remember, keep calm and get loads and loads of practice before the day................. :)

i've booked £100 of lessons for this thursday, next monday and the day of the test so hopefully that will be enough. Also will be going out with my dad at the weekend (after i have cleaned out the interior of the car) and then all will be hopefully good!

Its the same age as mine!

Whats up with the rear view mirror?

Good luck with the test - keep cool and be positive :)

Somehow it is scratched, i don't know how it happened! Might be able to just replace the glass

Yeah thats a bit odd, its quite hard to scratch glass. Sadly mine (R reg fiesta LX 1.25 3dr) is dying and since remembering that the mot expires on 20th May (No chance of passing without serious money spent) its days are now numbered...

It is going to scrap, i am really hoping that they introduce this "scrappage allowance" with the new Budget, as the money would go toward my new fiesta thats arriving in about 4-6 weeks! If not its still going to scrap...

Either way I can let you know what is the deal if you like, in a few weeks time, you could have a few bits off it for free before the tow truck takes it to car heaven...

(this was my first car too, and it was brilliant for so many reasons! :) )

Thanks alot for that offer, i appreciate that. I shall see if there is anything i can think of and if there is i shall PM you. There shouldn't be, i don't think there is anything that is hugely wrong with it, seems to run ok and there is only a bit of rust where it has been hit on the right front wing and on the right passenger door sill but i shall sand them down and fill them, shouldn't be too big a job. i have to save up about £1800 so i have plenty of time before that happens!!

nice car, if you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for it?

I do believe he got it for free. Free I tells ya!

yes i was very lucky to get it for free. I am so pleased with it !

Thanks for all the good luck wishes for my test, i am very excited now !

planned out my saturday afternoon, it will be spending a silly amount of money on cleaning products and cleaning the jesus, mary and joseph out of it !

First of all good luck with your test. I wish you the best of luck! :) don't be nervous about it, just go out there and do your thing! My tip would be to make a point of looking in the mirrors. My neck was killing me by the time I finished the test as I was moving it up so much to make a point! LOL

I think your car looks great :)

My Ka sends it over a kiss x lol.

thank you ! the car will look even better when i properly clean it, only got it last night so was only able to give it a quick wash. By saturday night it will look good, i promise! my little spending spree in halfords will do the trick, im trying to convince myself that making a shopping list is not sad...

I was like you this time last month only difference was I passed my test on the Thursday, bought the car on the Sunday, bought cleaning products on the Monday and spent all day cleaning it on the Tuesday :)

No your not sad making a shopping list! I did the same thing. Saved a few bob though as I pinched all my Dad's auto glym bits. Made the car look lovely. I got my self this really good cleaning glove as well called ''the noodle'' was in ASDA for £2... best £2 I have ever spent. Makes the car look a treat.

Bet you will be cleaning it every week now hehe

Halfords are doing 3 for 2 on all car care stuff atm, so use that to your advantage. Try to avoid the cheapy wax. Quick word of adivce - don't use a yellow sponge on a car. As a mimium use a microfiber wash mitt. If your splashing the cash a bit more, go for Sheeps or Lambs skin wash mitts :)

PS - good luck on your driving test

Whats wrong with those yellow sponges? (im learning so much about car care tonight lol)

ok, long post comming up :P

A yellow sponge a flat surface. Every time you run the sponge over the paintwork it picks up the dirt. That dirt has nowhere to go at all apart from on the face of the sponge. All dirt picked up on a car has edges on them which easily create scratches and swirl marks. When you run the sponge over the same bit of paint work, the dirt is put back onto the car and starts "digging in" into the clear coat which is what makes swirl marks appear. When you do this over the whole car, it will look awfull.

Now for the microfiber wash mitt.

They are simular to a sponge apart from 1 key point. They don't have a flat surface resulting in being able to store the dirt picked up from the paint and staying in the microfiber stuff.

The VERY best product is Sheeps skin or Lambs wool skin. They are super soft and have a very deep pile resulting in being able to store much more dirt in the sponge and keeping the dirt away from touching the paintwork again. They work best with a Grit Guard in the bottom of the bucket :)

They are the most expensive option but they are the very best.

Thank you very much for the reply! :)

What about chamois leather are they any good? although thinking about it do you even need to dry a waxed car?

I wash mine, jetwash it off (from a distance so not to damage anything) blade excess water off and then with a damp chamois, leather it dry. I find if I dont leather it dry, even though its waxed with Auto Glym Ultra Deep Shine and Extra Gloss Protection, I still get drying marks with the lime etc in the water round here.
