James (jeebowhite) has a good value one that seems to provide a good image.

These two things are the primary functions of any dash cam. Most or any sensible dash cam do not come ready to be hard wired in. This means they are not straight forward out the box any cameras like that are quickly slated. Instead you can always chop the ends off your 12v plug and hard wire that.

Small cameras lack quality and can be useless if the image isn't clear enough tbh its hard to find the perfect dash cam.

Cheers, ive ordered the same as jeebo looks great and ill try hard wiring it to the interior light first and see what happens if not I'll install a second cgi lighter but under or behind the centre console and plug it in so it carnt be seen

All I'd say is steer clear of the tat on ebay! I bought one last year which looked good: front and rear cameras, microphone, HD recording etc. You could even get a GPS attachment that could record location, speed etc on the video too. Was very impressed to begin with, the videos were good quality, and it was small enough to mount behind my rear view mirror (put the wires into the headlining across the windscreen, down the front pillar.) The planned to wire it in but used the 12v socket.

After a few months, I noticed the screen had deformed in the heat of the summer. I continued to use it, but now it won't record video, just sound!

My advice, pay a bit more and get something that is well recommended :)

Yh i know what you mean ive gone with a well known one and has great reviews from fellow foc members plus loads of YouTube clips and reviews online and only found a small handful of bad reviews so im happy with the buy :)

For hard wiring. Remember most of these cameras run at 5v not 12v. So don't just cut the plug off amd wire it to 12v. Unless you use a Usb socket to power it down to 5v.

Tjays what im doing using the 12v with an additional socket and usb cable plus plug to power it if not i have an ignition live i have preinstalled i can use

H,

You can either ring straight through or if you wanted to PM me your details nearer the time and I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.

Dan.

Hi Guys,

I've done a review of an ace little dash-cam here:

http://www.theiac.org.uk/news/Tom-Hardwick-review.pdf

any questions - fire away.

I used my phone as a dashcam,a window mount and a 32gb card of eBay for 16 quid.more than enough for a journey

Hi Guys,

I've had dash-cams before now suckered onto the inside of the windscreen but there are a few problems. They're always pretty visible from outside the car, they're never fitted on the centreline of the car so the films are always a bit lop-sided, and they tend to vibrate on the mount however tight you do up all the knobs.

Ah, but I've found the perfect solution. I've attached the camera to the rear-view mirror support. It's on the car's centreline, it's rock solid so there's no vibration to spoil my movies and it's almost invisible from outside because there's no give-away circular suction-cup showing. It's a total 'what's not to like?' solution as far as I'm concerned.

Our work cars use a tiny fisheye lens hard wired so when the key goes in it records. The quality is very good. I've not seen any like it available to buy, the minute I do I'm bagging one. They are dead handy nowadays.

Mine's like that Sheriff. It's a fit and forget - it starts recording when the ignition's turned on and stops recording when the ignition's turned off. Sees very wide-angle - the base of each A pillar is in shot. Costs less than £50.

I have the Mobius and it's amazing quality for £43!

I second that. Mobius hard wired in. I made a guide on how yo hard wire a dash cam under guides on the forum.

Quick question guys does telling your insurance company you have a dash cam lower your price or not?

Never even thought to tell my insurance company when I renewed. Does it come under the question. 'Have you modified your car in any way'?

Tom which one you got mate?

I'll check out the möbius too.

I've got the SJ1000. Fifty quid on Amazon. Amazingly good value.

Thanks guys.

Food for thought there...
