Ford Focus Mk1 Brake Squeal?

Featured Replies

Hi chaps,

I have a squeak coming from somewhere whenever I brake. It only occurs when the car has warmed up and has traveled around 3 miles or so. It doesn't do it in reverse though for some reason.

It does it faintly as I move off from stopping but only to around 5 mph or so.

I have just put a spare brake caliper on the passenger side and put some more copper grease on as I thought it was causing the pads to stick but the squeal is still there.

Could it be that the pads are too smooth and need roughening up? There is plenty of meat on the pads too.

The car is a 51 plate and has done 85k miles.

Anyone else had this problem or have any ideas?

Many thanks

Forgot to mention, I had new shoes and cylinders on the back last month.
