Since it's a naturally aspirated engine you have to start going the routes of cams, conrods and pistons. And after all that the engine won't be as reliable as it was when Ford made it, NA tuning really is an art. Honestly your best bet would be swap the 1.25 for a 1.4 or 1.6 out of a mk5 Zetec S. The 1.6 has a big tuning community so parts are easier to find compared to the lower end engines.
