Headlights

Featured Replies

Just been washing the Focus and noticed that one of the headlights seems to have a layer of lacquer or something peeling off. Do Ford cover their headlights with something and if so would I be covered to get it sorted under my last year of warranty?

Sorry for poor pics, but difficult to capture.

Plastic headlights are manufactured with polycarbonate plastic for its
tensile strength but it is a very porous plastic, so the manufacturers
apply a protective film to the headlight lens. Intense sunlight, heat
and humidity combined with the heat of the halogen bulb delaminates the
protective film leaving the lens exposed to the elements and badly in
need of headlight restoration. Over time the lens will develop a cloudy,
hazy, discolored appearance and this will diminish the headlights
ability to project its beam of light at night and during adverse weather
conditions

sadly its either a restoration kit or replacement

Think I may argue the case with Ford then under consumer law stating that the headlight has not been of a standard for a reasonable period of time. As I would expect 2 1/2 year set of headlights would be free of defect still.

you can try but they may argue delamination is not something they can control

Been down to my local Ford dealership and stood my ground. New headlight due later to day, on consumer law as it is not fit for purchase for a reasonable length of time and put to Ford as a manufacturing fault.

good job just shows when they roll over they usually know its been an issue already
