Gear Knob

Featured Replies

I'm looking at the possibility of changing my gear knob in the car. I have a Focus 2008 (2011 Sport, end of production model) and came across this that fits a Fiesta...

Would that fit the shaft of the current gear selector or will I have to specifically buy one to fit a Focus?

I did buy this

last year and fitted it, but now I'm possibly starting to regret it as it feels too big and clunky.

Basically after a smaller aluminium knob (Ford genuine preferably) and I like the look of the Fiesta one.

The knob will fit.

Just a faff unclipping and refitting the collar that grips the gaiter to the knob.

I found it's a bit of a 4 hands job, but nothing a vice and a leather hammer won't cure.

The knob I bought last year came with a new collar. I agree that removing the collar on the OEM was a bit of a faff. I ended up using a screwdriver to prise the 4 plastic clips apart slightly, just enough to be able to pull it off without going mental.

Did a pretty good job of removing the OEM knob and collar last year...

Don't need to tell you any more about that little task then ;)

Anyhow, I'm pretty sure that the gearshaft is the same thread and diameter.

I'm confused...

I put the part number (1799524) in to eBay and it brought back this knob design:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-NEW-FORD-FIESTA-LEATHER-GEAR-KNOB-/331036764953?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4d13542b19

which is completely different to the knob shown here:

http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/ford_fiesta_gear_lever_knob_black_leather_and_satin_chrome_design__f_1799524_c_1102.htm

If the knob design is indeed the same as the one in the eBay link, then I'd be pretty much be buying the same knob that I already have.

EDIT: Ford Accessories shows that part number 1799524 is the correct design as shown on the FordPartsUK site.

Time to order!
