Mk4 Cruise Control Problem.. Intermittent Refusal To Work.

Featured Replies

Hi All, Just to say another +1 for the resistor fix, having cleaned the switches with contact cleaner (without removal) I then split the steering column covers and then removed the 2 screws holding the wipers stalk. and after lifting the clip was able to slide the stalk out and gained access to the resistor and then followed instructions to bridge was tricky soldering (but I'm an old hand and was fairly straight forward) Just added some fresh solder and was able to perform the fix.

Nice tip and worked well.

Hi, 4 months ago I purchased a 61 plate Mondeo Titanium X Sport (2.2 diesel). When I press the CC button it comes up as being on standby, then when I press the "Set +" button to set the speed it just knocks CC off completely. This is an intermittent issue as it will work for a few days then stop for a while and so on. Obviously it's not an issue with the "Set +" button not working as it it registering that it is being pressed. The car was returned to the dealer where they removed both sides and cleaned with switch cleaner, this worked for a few journeys and then back to square 1.. can anyone please help as I'm not hugely mechanical/electrical minded? Thanks in advance.

Well, after about 12 months after replacing the switch the exact same fault occurred again at the beginning of last month. My line of thought is that it would be highly unlikely for the switch to fail so quickly so I have removed it from the steering wheel and looked at the connectors which it is plugged into. I have given them a good clean and a spray of 3 in 1 oil.

I have had no problems since, I'm hoping that cleaning the connectors on the steering column has done a permanent fix. If it fails again I'll let you all know straight away, if it is fixed I'll confirm on here again in 12 months.

My curise control did work but now has stopped working. I have a 59 plate mondeo 2.0 estate. Found the switch on the clutch but can't see the one on the brake pedal. The car was cleaned before I bought it and was shut for 2weeks and loads of moisture was trapped in the car. Do you think the switch needs to come out and be cleaned

My 2008 Mondeo had the same behaviour. Bought some non residual contact cleaner, gave it some squirts through the side of the buttons and it cured the problem.

Tried the cleaner solutions,  and it worked several times. And while doing it I found that if I just hold all the six buttons simultaneously for about 15s,the problem is solved.

No cleaner or anything else needed. Just hold the six buttons simultaneously for 15s and it starts working again.
