Knocking Noise

Featured Replies

I searched and came across one or two threads regarding this knocking noise on Fiestas but it was from 2012 or beforehand.

Anyhow recently I've noticed this knocking noise from the steering column whilst turning the steering wheel at low speeds and/or standing still. Apparently back in 2010 it was common and there was even a TSB because of it and the conclusion was that there was missing lubricant at the sliding surfaces between the male and female tubes of the lower steering shaft. This may well be the problem I'm having, or it may not be but it seems quite likely that it is.

After I did a bit of research I went to Ford and notified them of the problem and they said they hadn't came across that problem before even after I explained it to them.

Worst of all my Fiesta is only over 1 year old so it's still under warranty but surely it should be covered as it isn't exactly wear and tear?!

Any advice would be appreciated.

I had this problem about 18 months ago. The problem was dealt with under warranty and is well known - your dealer is not telling you the truth. At first the joint was lubricated - that lasted for a while but eventually the joint was replaced - problem solved. Try another dealer.

I agree, try another dealer. Remember all Ford dealers can do work which is covered by the warranty, not just the one you bought it from. The warranty is between you and Ford, the dealers are like middle men.

Hi I had a ford fiesta 60 plate and had problems in the 3 years I had it with knocking noise when turning and a loud clunk on full lock they pus some special lubrication on it and it seemed to do the job but it took 6 times taking it in for them to decide that was it :o
