Ford Focus - Red Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hi guys - first post,

I have a 2006 ford focus that has reached nearly 67000 miles, and has developed a fault with a warning light. it is the red cog shaped light with the '!' in the middle, which turns on as I'm driving along. It has happened 3 times now in the last 6 months, once in October, March and today, in April. Turning the engine off and then back on again turns the light off, and it doesn't come back on again. I am noticing no loss in power or performance, although the light normally turns on towards the end of journeys.

Most people tell me its a dirty sensor, which I'm hoping it is, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, as I cannot find anything similar to this online. I have not taken it into a garage yet, and was wondering if this is the best solution.

Thanks!

the cog symbol is to do with the gears, either the gearbox is low on oil or like you stated the sensor could be dirty and just may need to be cleaned, but take it to a local garage and get them to check the gearbox oil level and the sensor. hope this helps and good luck.:-)

Power train fault

If the light has come on it will have logged a code on the ECU. Need to read the codes first or everything is just speculation really.
