hi two days ago my car died seconds after start up and put it down to the fuel pump, cut out the steel under the rear seat to make an access panel to save dropping the tank and removed the sender unit and pump, after removing i found the fault to be a broken plug on the pump (see pic) so cleaned the connector and removed the other half of the plug, then kept the two metal crimps from inside the plug and covered in heat shrink tube and pushed them onto the terminals (see second pic) everything is all working now but i cant get my head around connectors like this being safe in a fuel tank,

i know people say its ok because its submerged but in a focus tank this plug is not always submerged if the fuel is low

my worry is that if these wires were somehow to come off and touch sureley there is potential of a fire then???

I see what you mean. I am surprised the plug broke like that. As it is a part that shouldn't move or be interfered with I suppose it is pretty unlikely the two wires would ever come into contact. But if they did like you said when its not submerged in fuel there is a danger of not so much fire, but an explosion from the gas produced.

ye iv been looking about online and found a new sender and pump for £65 localy so gonna go for it, its not worth the worry in the back of my mind escpecialy with to little ones on board
