Decat

Featured Replies

Anybody know if the 1.6L petrol Decat would fit a 1.0L Ecoboost? I think the answer is no but just want to make sure

No and I wouldn't decat a turbo car as they need a bit of back pressure on the system. Can damage the turbo in the long run.

And you'd just have to keep putting the cat back on for MOTs..

My old clio actually past its last mot with a decat on. Just need the engine running in top condition. Biggest issue is when VOSA order the police to pull you.

New law of mot. If a car is supposed to have a cat on and it hasnt. Its a fail, it was a grey area this time last year and its only recently been inforced

I thought u could decat a diesel as I was looking into it when I had my focus and was told it was legal

Im pretty sure its all changed. Thr place i work has failed a couple of cars becuase of this. Thats why if you look on pumaspeed for example they spcify its for race track only (a decat system) but anything that is supposed to have a cat or a dpf is mot fail and im surr its against the law. They are ways around it for mot. But thats not saying a bobby or a vosa wont have your pants down if they find out.

Couple of years ago my mate had a 300+ bhp ibiza and that had a decat on and vosa stopped him an slaped him with a 1200 quid fine (including buying a cat) and siezed the car till he had the parts

Decats have always been illegal due to emissions laws, the mot are meant to check it, even if it was never fitted ( they always have since the 70s ) it will fail on emissions reason cat removed. Never have they been legal on road cars since before most of us were born.

Completely untrue, the less back-pressure downstream of the turbine, the better, will not damage the turbo if done correctly/ by a tuner that knows what they are doing

Decatted mine years ago,( also with a straight-through exhaust- much less back-pressure than stock) still has original turbo running 25% more boost and 50% more power (approx)

upstream of the turbine, the turbine/ manifold produces enough back-pressure

Most tuners know all this (or should know!)

However, i would not decat a modern petrol-turbo road car

Completely untrue,

Ummmm? Power yes get rid of it, longevity I certainly wouldn't decat a turbo petrol.

As far as I remember the cat wasn't introduced in an MOT till the 90s which is why Lada stopped selling in the UK.

You can decat a diesel as emissions are less, you can't decat a petrol because the emissions go through the roof.

Although I still wouldn't do it, no guarantee that it will pass an MOT. Just get a sports cat.

Ill just take my 8 years of dealet knowledge and talk to a brick wall lol.

Plus the pcm will have a field day without a cat on it cus it needs one to constantly adjust the mixturr to make it run "correct"

Sorry lol *as far as I've heard you can decat a diesel.

I'd never advise anyone to take my word as gospel lol and I'd still advise against decatting any car unless it's a track monster.
