Featured Replies

For second year my Focus has failed on same two parking break problems!!!

1. Offside rear parking brake recording little or no effort (3.7.B.6a)

2. Parking Brake: eficiency below requirments (3.7.B.7)

Last year the garage REPLACED MY REAR BRAKE PADS & DISCS... yet again this year SAME TWO FAILURES ON BRAKES !!!!!!

ANY COMMENTS OR HELP APPRECIATED

Has the handbrake cable been adjusted?

Nothing has been done yet. I did wonder about handbrake ajustment... would it be that simple? :) AND if I did ajust handbrake how would i check efficiency etc?? thanks Rich

It will be faulty rear brake caliper

Thanks you lots for comment.

I had excatly same two faults last M.O.T

1. Offside rear parking brake recording little or no effort (3.7.B.6a)

2. Parking Brake: eficiency below requirments (3.7.B.7)

and as i said, the garage replaced discs & pads!

When i came to pick up car... the mechanic was driving car dragging my

back wheels on ground with hand brake on... but off side wheel was
still spinning even as he adjusted the handbrake in car!!!

What do you think, is the garage at fault?, proabably difficult to prove because or wear & tear ?!?

Thanks in advance... much appreciate your time & help :)

Oh dear, another mechanic who kbows nothing about rear disc brakes, adjusting handbrake to tight will stop stop self adjusters working in rear caliper , suprised the other caliper still works.lol

I thought it was all bit dodgy.. (and i paid for the pleasure NOT!!) thats why I have not gone back to trhat garage!!!

OK, my o/s rear brake caliper is fxxked.. so i need that sorting!! In lay mans terms what do i ask a garage to do to sort this, 1. fix o/s rear caliper only, 2. sort both calipers, 3.. full brake service so this does not come back bite me next MOT (obv last will cost most and I am trying keep bill down but obv if work needs doing then such is life lol)

Shame you dont live nearer mate..(Worcestershire bit far away!!) be happy to pay, just noice get job done right!!!!!!

Thanks again, your advice is much appreciated :)

Get someone else to have a look at it and make sure caliper is faulty, ( putting handbrake on and checking the lever arm moves on caliper but doesnt push pads against disc stopping wheel from moving.)

If its the case then get that caliper replaced, and check cables are wound off sufficently so levers on caliper just touch the stops. Any decent mechanic knows what to do.
