Led Rear Lights

Featured Replies

Hi all. I have a 2006 ST and my rear break light no longer works. I took off the light unit but there seems to be no way of getting into the actual unit to change the LED's. I have an MOT due on the 21st of feb and I need to get these fixed. I checked ebay and they are going for £145 but ive been out of work since end of Nov so money is a bit tight. I was wondering if there is any other way of being able to get into the unit and change the bulbs or some other DIY fix.

ive also looked at buying original light units but mine don't have any bulb holders etc and wiring isn't my strong point...

thanks for looking

Hi,

The looms from standard tail lights will be a straight swap see the reverse of my guide the looms simply unplug,

Link: http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/43587-guide-fitting-ford-rs-led-rear-light-units-focus-mk25/

Before purchasing though;

Have you chacked the fuses? Quite unusual both to be blown at the same time.

06 st 2.5

06 st 2.5

Mk2 2005-2008

Mk2.5 2008-2011

Same chassis just different body panels and cable connections,

However you may require mk2.5 if your original tail lights were full clear lenses with no red tint as they would b3 classed as mk2.5 meaning your loom sockets would be mk2.5 and not mk2 even though your focus is a mk2 in all other aspects :)

aw man! I don't actually know what were on it before. how can I find out?

Follow my guide linked above,

Then unplug the tail light and take a picture of the face of the loom socket,

Contact a fellow Mk2 owner that has upgrade to the led tail units such as KPG

Profile link: http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/user/41109-kpg/

Ask him to compare his mk2 loom socket with your picture,

You will then know if your loom sockets are Mk2 or Mk2.5

My loom sockets are mk2.5 so if your sockets look the same as the ones saw in my guide there Mk2.5 mate.

This is a MK2 loom socket:

Bulb holders:

And whole loom:

When changing my lights from standard MK2 to RS LED lights I had to get the looms from a MK2.5 for them to work properly.

Hope this helps.

Any luck with the lights?

These are he original lights. The guy who I got the car of said it was just a case of plug and play. No extra wires needed. So is it right in saying all I need to do is buy these and there will just fit straight in?

The ones on my car are led which should be the 2.5 connector? But the guy said he just took his old ones (mk2) off and just plugged the LEDs in?

The ones in the pic you posted are standard non-led rear lights. If the ones that are on your car now, have mk2.5 connectors then those lights that you bought won't fit.

Maybe he means he 'plugged' new LED light bulbs in for the brake/indicator possibly?

Either way those ones won't fit without the facelift connectors.

Where can I buy the connectors?

Where can I buy the connectors?

What I did when I wanted to put MK2.5 lights on my MK2 was go to a breakers and find a focus same year as yours and ask them for the wiring looms. Or failing that, head over to ford but they'd be expensive.

If my leds have a 2.5 connector can't I just buy 2.5 light units? Or are they a different shape?

Well yes you could just buy those I suppose. More expense for you through after buying the mk2 light units.

I will take a pic of everything once I get home. Just to make sure everything I've said is right.

I could probably get a decent pair of 2.5 units off eBay. That way I don't have to buy my old lights back plus looms. Might be just cheaper buying 2.5 units. But I'll take pics n let you see what I'm dealing with.

Hang on here...when you refer to LED units in your original post, you have included a pic of aftermarket lights, such as these...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-FOCUS-MK2-HATCH-05-08-LED-SMOKED-REAR-TAIL-LIGHTS-/301473802450?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AFocus&hash=item46313d28d2

These come as a straight plug and play replacement for your standard lights, which if your profile is correct and your car is a 2006, will be the red Mk2 lights, not the clear Mk2.5 lights.

I changed my red Mk2 lights for clear Mk2.5 lights and have the red ones sitting in a box somewhere, along with any bulb holders which I had to cut during the mod. You're welcome to them if you're able to help with the postage?

Apologies for any confusion with my previous post.

Also, Charlie (username Brigante on here) had those aftermarket LED units fitted if I remember correctly, so he might be well placed to tell you exactly at what point along the loom the 'plug and play' part is, ie either at the light/bulb itself or further down the loom at the grey plug.

You're grand Kiefer, I suppose when we here about LED tail lights on here we automatically think about the genuine Ford ones, so easy point of confusion. I'd say it'll be much clearer once Cameron gets some pics up.

As I said Cameron, you're welcome to these standard lights if they'd work out as an easy fix for you!

If that's the back of your red mk2 lights that doesn't look standard to me they seem to have been modified to some degree

No they are my led lights. I was showing Gary a pic to see if standard mk2 lights just fit straight on.
