2005 C-Max Petrol Engine Systems Fault

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Whilst out earlier today I had a couple of errors appear on the screen on my dash which said Engine system fault, Steering assist failure. And the speedometer failed (showing 0mph when travelling)

There's no noises, there doesn't seem to be any difference in the weight of the steering so would I be right in thinking the wiring loom is possibly faulty.

I have recently bought a diagnostic kit off eBay with the FORSCAN software so hopefully will be able to see any faults, was just posting here to see if anyone has had a similar issue or the exact issue and had it resolved?

(Once I have received this and plugged it in I will update with codes)

it could be a number of things, but you need to start off getting it plugged in. If you want a starter guide on getting up and running with forscan, check my signature, as there is a link I did there of a guide to the software. It will help you get started quickly.

I think you may be looking at an instrument cluster issue, or a wiring issue. But start off with Forscan, get the error codes from both CAN Speeds and take it from there!

Yeh I'm thinking that, I believe the car once had an alarm fitted which I can only presume has been removed for whatever reason I do not know.

Now I'm thinking that when it was taken out its caused issues.

I had confirmation that the diagnostic kit was sent this morning, so hopefully it'll arrive tomorrow. I will have a look at your signature should I need any help, thank you for letting me know

No worries Nd the car probably does have N alarm.... Lock the car, leave it for half an hour, go out stick the key in the bonnet and open it. The alarm should go off. I found this was the only way to activate my cmax alarm on demand

Haha I see, I think I'll leave that little test, knowing my luck it'll go off and I won't be able to turn it off. (Been there with a Pug 306 years ago that had a dodgy key fob and a backup battery source for the horn when pulling the wires out)

Haha, well for the record, just press lock and unlock alternately about 5 times and it disables the alarm.

If thT fails open the door with the key and shove the key on ignition and turn it onto electrics. Both will shut the alarm up
