Third Brake Light Bulb Change

Featured Replies

I want to change the bulbs in my third brake light to led. The manual says it requires removing the tailgate trim (annoying) which seems to be the same process as on my focus, 2 screws and numerous clips to pop out by jamming a screwdriver behind the trim. This was dead easy on the focus and I could do it in seconds.

Ive heard this is a painstaking awkward task on the mondeo though and the trim does seem a lot stiffer.

Can anyone advise on this and is it possible to do it without breaking any clips?

I did it, and I broke a fair few clips, but even then the trim is present and correct, still fits nicely.

thought no one was gonna reply to this

is there a certain strategy to it?

Me too... Broke the central studs/fixings .... Seems impossible to get out without inadvertently doing so. Went back in and is secure with no rattles so all ok

Just cant get over how easy the focus tailgate trim comes off and this is basically the same process but as soon as I even start to attempt it on the mondeo I can see/feel its gonna be a battle and it all just feels a lot stiffer

Why ford would make it so hard to change those bulbs I dont know when all the other bulbs on the tailgate are so easy to access

Would of thought you would be able simply pop it out from the outside with a flat blade screwdriver in usual ford fashion

You would hope so, but to be honest originally I only broke one clip then in my lack of patience and I ended up hitting it and broke more lol...

Use a flat plastic tool instead as I used a flathead screwdriver, it made the job easier but didn't spread the movement and risks more damage
