2012 Ford Focus Passenger Airbag - Dashboard

Featured Replies

Hi

I have the airbag light on, and after some investigating, have found that the airbag is not connected (wired up) behind the glove box. I have located the deactivation wiring plug (Red and black end), and also a small yellow connector. Is the yellow connector the one that goes into the back of the airbag? After looking at the back of the airbag, the connection port looks like it may be broken. Would I be able to connect a resistor to the yellow connector until I can get a replacement airbag? How easy is it to replace the passenger dash airbag?

Many thanks in advance.

makes me wonder why the connector is not fitted, have you just bought it? how long has airbag light been on for? under no circumstances put a resistor in the circuit, airbags are killers so be carefull. cant see how airbag connector can become damaged unless somenone tried prising off connector incorrectly

not removed passenger airbag but theres not much holding it in, a few nuts and bolts

Yes, Ive not had it long. I'm more used to buying older cars, so airbag lights being on and needing resetting Ive had before. Only reason I was thinking of the resistor is that there is no power going to the airbag as its not connected under the dash. If anyone can provide a picture (from behind the glove box) of the airbag wired up. That way I'll know that I have all the wiring, and possibly just need a new airbag.

theres only 1 connector with 2 wires on it, its an unusual shape for a connector and yellow, it fits on its side if you get what i mean,

wire colours are violet /green and grey/blue from the info i have

Be careful touching the airbags even changing them you should disconnect the battery for at less 30 mins

Thankyou iantt

It sounds like I've got the correct wiring, and it just needs reconnecting. I think that the black plastic (on the back of the airbag) that the yellow connector plugs into may be damaged, so I may need to find a way to hold it in place (or have to buy a new airbag). I will disconnect the battery on Tuesday, and try connecting it back up. Will post some pictures if I can.

I have now removed the broken connector, gaving me acccess to the airbag port. I have plugged the yellow connector into the port. Does this look correct (I dont want the airbag to blow when I reconnect the battery).

So airbag connected...battery reconnected... push start button........BANG!!!

I'm joking. No airbag activation. Airbag light came on on instrument panel, then went out like it's supposed to. I've probably saved myself a few hundred quid at the dealers, so thanks guys.

Just need to sort out my display controls now (but can't get the steering wheel airbag and controls off).
