Unconfigured Displays On The Radio On Start Up

Featured Replies

I have a facelift mk2 focus 2008 and on startup the radio displays unconfigured on startup it doesn't stop the radio from working but it is abit rubbish at picking up radio stations has anyone got any ideas

If you store all the info and on start up its reset that suggests the battery is so low it can't hold the memory if the battery is okay then either the stereo is faulty or the info isn't being stored properly on almost all radios you tune in the station then hop down the button for three seconds of the number you want to assign the station to so radio one stored to button one or there is a loose cable at the rear of the stereo

It store's statations as u say and the battery is fine its not skipped a beat since having it so im puzzled why

What I mean is if you store the stations and then switch the car off for more than 30 mins and they are all wiped then the memory isn't storing this usually indicates a fault with the battery

Is the Sony radio the original factory installed radio or is it installed afterwards?

Usually the "Unconfigured Mode" message is shown on a radio which is not compatible with the car. This is a known issue after a Sony radio from a Mondeo MK4 or S-max/Galaxy is installed into a Focus MK2/MK2.5. Despite the radio's look the same there are technical differences like the communication protocol for example. Because of these differences a Sony radio from a Mondeo MK4 or S-max/Galaxy is not recognised correctly and can not be configured into a Focus MK2/MK2.5.

Jw1982 it's the standard ford 6000cd

I expected you to have a Sony because this is a known issue on a Sony radio which originally came from a different Ford model. Despite I repaired and owned a lot of different Focus MK2/MK2.5 radio's I have never seen this problem on a 6000CD.

If this is the original Focus radio you could check the radio wiring and the battery voltage at the Quadlock (radio) connector. If these are OK the problem will most likely be the radio itself.

I have this same issue on my mom's 2007 Fiesta...it just displays "unconfigured" at start, but works fine afterwards. Stores stations and everything. It's also the basic 6000CD, but I think it might have been swiped from another car (maybe Focus/Mondeo, who knows), because on the manual for the stereo I can clearly see that there is a different sticker with the radio code under the current sticker with the code...so I believe the original radio was changed (for the same model), because of whatever reason...I bought the car as used, so who knows...I'm not making a big deal about this since I'm going to change the stereo anyway for something more advanced (with GPS, DVD, rear cam ,etc...)...

But why am I mentioning all this, I read somewhere, I don't remember where, that this "error" can be erased at Ford service, probably with some tool they have for resetting codes on stereos, etc...

I know I'm replying to a very old post. I had the same issue, it was solved by plugging a good diagnostic tool and programming the audio control module (ACM). It asked basic questions about the speaker set-up, what model of car etc. Took around 5 minutes. Hope this helps anyone with the same issue.
