Mk 7.5 Mountune Question!! Help :)

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I have recently purchased a frozen white 64 plate ecoboost 125ps Zetec S

I have installed a primary hose and a K&N panel filter and i really want to get the mountune MP135 remap. Would this be ok without buying the intercooler or the charge pipe kit? Would It benefit me or is it just wasting my money if I'm not going to get the MR165 remap?

Help would be much appreciated :)

Regards,

scott

All you need is the cold air intake and pipe and you can rock the mp135 you don't need anything else but you might gain a very little with the intercooler probs around 1-3bhp if that

MP135 comes with the air filter, that's all you need to start with :)

In a similar quandary myself! 125PS to 135PS does seem a rather modest increment 'full stop', and for the outlay too even when taking into account a similarly modest increase in torque or any other secondary peripheral aspects eg sharper throttle response(??) that I am similarly NOT aware of?

If it had replicated the Red/Black editions 140PS I'd have said 'fair play'. Logic and reason prevails. It would have been commensurate with the cost, reflected what most would have been expecting from a mild tune and would have potentially sold more units too.

As an aside, a very gifted friend of mine (used to build the DNA double-helix just for something to do!) once calculated, with the aid of his slide rule (!), the amount of extra power/torque required to provide a genuinely meaningful/noticeable increment in performance on our circa 118BHP (carburetored) sportscars of the day and (can't recall exactly - absolute min 20BHP possibly rings a bell?) it was quite a few I can tell you! So we just added 7-10% high grade alcohol at every top-up and boy did they go!

Seriously; Puma advertise a 145PS alternative which sounds right on the button for a similar if lesser (?) cost but of course, and its a big but for some, any Ford warranty would be voided also there are characteristics, driveability, mpg, insurance, emmisions/tax costs and more to be taken into account. Pays your money takes your choice! Yep, still pondering here too!

Exactly Brian.

Not much choice if warranty is important to you. I'd say Superchips are also worth considering with there 154bhp offering and mountune's MR165 setup. It just depends on how much your prepared to spend ultimately.

Ma mate the mechanic said the mr165. (162bhp) is actually 155-6bhp without all the added stuff so in theory the superchips 154bhp with just the sport filter but with rest would be around 160-61bhp
