Cause Of Heavy Clutch On My 2005 Focus Diesel?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I have a 2005 Ford Focus Zetec 2.0l TDCi Duratorq Diesel (136PS). Ever since I've had the car, which I bought with about 80,000 miles on the clock, the clutch has been very heavy. I'm trying to work out whether this is normal for this particular car, or whether it could be fixed. I understand that diesel engines like mine can sometimes have heavy clutches? The amount of force needed to depress my clutch is quite substantial. If I am stuck in traffic for half a mile, my leg will start to ache and the sole of my foot will start to hurt because of the amount of pressure I have to put on it. I have to be careful to wear grippy shoes when driving, otherwise the pedal can easily slip upwards from underneath my foot.

Does anyone else have the same engine as me and find the same thing?

Thanks

I suppose mine is quite heavy and thinking back to when I had a 1.6 petrol Focus, that car's clutch was a lot lighter but I've had my 2.0 TDCi for about 145k miles now and I guess I've got used to it. Have you considered taking out a gym subscription?

Thanks for your reply. I do a lot of cycling so I don't think it's a leg strength issue! Does anyone else have this model car and find the clutch heavy? I think the heavy clutch is probably just a characteristic of the car rather than a fault with mine, but I'd like to know other people's experiences. Thanks.

Don't worry, I was only joking about the gym subscription.

The mk2 Focus diesel does have a heavy clutch for sure.

I used to get the achy leg and sore foot as well.

Stick the car in neutral and rest your leg as often as possible or tickle along in 1st gear with pedals covered where possible.

My car is going in for a service shortly. Is there anything simple (and low cost) that can be done to make the clutch lighter?
