Indicator Flashing Rate Problem On 2003 1.8 Petrol Focus Estate

Featured Replies

May I request some advice from members with this problem which has recently occurred?

Over the past couple of weeks the rate of flashing of the three (front/side/rear) left hand Indicator lights has sometimes suddenly 'doubled' when used. Then it's fine for a few uses. This situation has steadily got worse, to the point that it's doing that most of the times when it's used, but - BUT! - it will now still occasionally work correctly (so presumably no part in the system can be permanently broken)?

Before I start cleaning and changing the three indicator bulbs in turn (all I can think of!) to see if they could be at fault from poor connections, etc, could anyone perhaps suggest a likely cause for such a phenomenon?? ( I am just praying it's not some shorting fault buried within the loom)

Very many thanks in advance,

Richard

Flashing quicker than normal? That is normally a sign of bulb failure, I would clean the connections and check any earth points. However, I am aware that newer fords do not have the age old flashing unit so it could be summat else, I will watch this thread and maybe learn something.

I have had exactly the same, intermittent but getting progressively more frequent. When it is happening, get out of the car and you will find at least one indicator not working - either front, side pannel or rear. On mine it was the front and the bulb was fine, which was the first thing I checked. One of the clips on the front light unit had been pushed backwards and was a loose contact with the bulb holder, so I sprung it back a bit with a small screw driver so it pushed more against the bulb holder contact. Simple solution, and while your loose contact might be in a different place it could easily be traced using a multimeter if not obvious.

Have been off line for a while with computer problems, but just wanted to say that the indicator lights are now fixed and that it was down to poor cointacts,.

So - many thanks,

Richard
