Tapping Noise.

Featured Replies

Hi, just wondering if anyone can help.

2012 focus 1.6 tdci.

When I take my foot off the accelerator i get like a tapping noise coming from the front until it gets down to 1k revs then it stops, only noticed it up to now in 3rd and 4th gear and it doesn't happen all the time. Hope someone can help.

Sorry, that was meant to say when it gets down to 1.5k revs.

I guess not then!

give it a chance mate, I'm sure you would rather a couple of good answers rather than dozens of, "i dunno" answers

I too have a tapping noise, sounds like its coming from number 2 cylinder but I cant be sure, hydraulic lifters perhaps? piston seals, cam shaft, I haven't a clue.

Other than your not alone, my post wasn't much help, sorry about that

when I say tapping noise I may not of described it very well, could also describe it like someone flicking a card or when Ya put a card in ya spokes on ya bike when u were a kid.

Maybe a good idea to record it on a mobile audio wise or even better do a video mp4 and you can point to where you feel it seems to be coming from . Sadly asking about tapping in a motor forum is a bit like asking where is your headache coming from in a medical forum,it is a little to vague to be able to give any decent answers . More evidence better chances someone will know.

Sorry to be a wet blanket.

Hi I had the same problem as you and I fitted a switch on the clutch pedal

I totally understand Jon, that's the thing with noises and them only happening when they feel like it, hard to pin point and hard to describe, the only clue ive got is that it's coming from under the bonnet, which again is very vague I know, I will have a go at recording like next time I notice it. I was just hoping someone had experience of it in the past rather than someone trying to diagnose it from a vague description, but I understand what your saying. U could write on the back of a stamp what I know about cars, but I do know it's not meant to be there.

Was yours there all the time John or just randomly like mine?

Well when I was driving with my foot just on clutch or changing gear I got this like clicking nose so what I did is got a new switch on the clutch arm if you look underneath where the clutch arm is you will see the switch I'm talking about it has two wires going to it good luck

I think the best thing to do is let's hear it and we all might have a good chance of sorted out

Trust me mate i am over paranoid so forever reving and here loud taps etc but no warning lights etc so dont panic to much util it shows itself as very prominent . I did have something like it a week after getting my car and was water pump but also know my injectors are pretty noisy.
