Whoosh Noise And Black Smoke.

Featured Replies

Well I have not found any boost leaks at all. But oddly when the air is cool and dense the noise is almost completely gone and hardly any smoke at all. When the air temp gets warmer the noise comes back and the car smokes. So it seems the warm air is causing an air to fuel imbalance thus causing the wooshing noise and the smoke.

Any ideas I am thinking it is a problem with the intercooler and the air is not being compressed and cooled enough.

Whooshing has to be a boost leak somewhere. Possibly a pipe is getting soft in the heat and allowing a small hole to get bigger.

I doubt its anything to do with the intercooler, but cleaning it out won't hurt. You'll probably find about a cup of oil sitting in it.

Problem I with how loud the whoosh noise is it would have to be quite a large hole in my opinion.

Still, excess air wooshing can only be a leak somewhere, the amount of fuel can't cause that.

You could try unplugging the MAF, if that's faulty it may not be reading higher ambient temps causing the over-fuel.

Black smoke is indeed a fuel / air imbalance - too much fuel & not enough air.
