Where's This Come From?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

So earlier today I popped the bonnet to top up the washer fluid (finally got sick of the warning message & chime) & found a length of foam type stuff loose between the radiator & engine.

(Please see attached photos)

Can anyone shed any light on what this is/where it's from/what it's for?

I've not been under the bonnet since dealers replaced faulty condenser unit few months back.

It doesn't look like the type of thing a mechanic would use to protect the paint/body work while carrying out repairs.

At first I thought it was some soundproofing from the underside of the bonnet but that's all in order.

As usual any help would be appreciated.

Martin

Hi John,

Is that the plastic engine cover? If so does this not just pull off?

Thanks

not on the 1.6tdci

How many bolts are there?

if its the 1.6 tdci it has 2 10mm nuts on top

This piece of foam should be on top of the radiator fan housing. The foam has an adhesive backing but many times the foam comes loose after some time.

On my car the foam also came loose for about half the length. The other half was still attached so it was very clear where it was supposed to be. I used a contact adhesive to glue the foam back into place.

Yeah the foam does have some adhesive on one side but I can't see where it goes (no obvious sign), don't suppose you have a photo?

There should be a foam strip on the top of the condenser, my mate had to pull it off the old one and stick it onto the new condenser.

Thank you all for the replys I'll have a look tomorrow.

Ok so after having a look at my mates focus I can confirm as mentioned by others that the foam is from top of the condenser/radiator fan housing.

Does this need to be refitted/whats its purpose?
