yamavira
2005 Focus hatchback ghia. Tailgate lock rectangular rubber gaiter cover. This rectangular rubber cover lips over the rectangular "box" containing the lever which activates the tailgate lock. My question. How is this rectangular "box" fixed. I wish to renew the rubber cover. Does it simply snap out using a small screwdriver aroung the edge or must the tailgate lining be removed to gain access to nuts & bolts. Thanks for any assistance yamavira.
JW1982
You have to remove the tailgate lining at the inside first. Next you can access the nuts which secure the trim on the outside. After these nuts are removed the trim can be removed from the tailgate and the switch can be removed from the trim. Note that the rubber is part of the switch itself and can not be bought from Ford as a seperate part. When replacing the switch you should also replace the foam gasket between the trim and the tailgate to avoid water ingress.
