Ka 2003 Loosing Coolant

Featured Replies

My daughters KA is loosing coolant. .

There is water on top of the thermostat housing so it is either a leaking hose or a failed O ring.

How can I tell?

If I need to replace the housing I've seen them on Ebay for about £15 but I can't find any instructions anywhere? I can't even get the air filter housing off so is there anything on the internet or do I need a Haynes manual and if so which one?

Thanks

Chris...

If you can give us a few more details about the car we should be able to offer you some help.

How old is the car?

What engine is fitted?

Haynes Manuals are useful for the DIY'er/hobbyist.

The thermostat housing should just be held on with a couple of nuts. It's not uncommon for the gaskets to fail on them (not just on Fords).

If the thermostat still functions then you can probably get away with using some sealant (get one for automotive use - needs to withstand the engine temps and chemical attack). It's only a couple of quid a tube in most motor factors.

Is the air filter housing on top of the engine?

Its a 2003 1.3 with a duratec engine.

The thermostat housing is on the right of the engine with 5 hoses and 6 bolts holding it on!

It is buried beneath the air filter box.
