Instrument Panel Box - Cannot Close 'cause It Doesn't Hook

Featured Replies

I have a problem with the box on the upper side of the instrument panel. I don't know exact name, saw it's called "top glove box", it's circled in the attachment.

I cannot keep it closed now, because it doesn't hook anymore. Normally, it's pressed down to be closed and again pressed to be open.

The car was left outside during heat, and although sun was shining at the back side, probably heat itself resulted in a deformed plastic hook on the cover.

Anyone experienced this? What to do? If replace only, what to look for? Thank you.

I have exact same with heat .....but a known fault can either buy replacement lid from Ford about 35 quid .. or do what I did remove the spring so the lid just stays down both options need the entire unit removing it clips into dash needs prising out with plastic or non scratching removal tool ...

Here is a video "how to remove top glove box from ford forcus", I must try:

I don't have permission to view this forum. Can you please copy relevant text for me and other readers. Thank you.

So my top glove box had been previously broken & glued shut, I prised it open and weighed up my options;

Either buy a new catch & try to source a new lid as catch was snapped or think up an alternative,

New catch is £18 (cheapest I can find on ebay from Turkey)

Was struggling to even find a lid so here was my fix:

I bought this off ebay for £2.45

I then removed the catch from my car, prised the old catch out from the housing (pulls straight out with a screwdriver:

The best bit is the new bit off ebay fits directly into the housing:

Then it's simply a case of pushing it into place & glueing the new latch to the lid of the box smile.png

A Quick, easy, cheap fix which saves a fortune smile.png

just noticed same problem on dash box lid on c-max today open it then would not shut right hand side
