Clutch Judding Automatic

Featured Replies

Am new to this forum to first of all hello and sorry if this has already being brought up . Had a few Fiesta's in my time still miss my last one :(. Anyway getting to the point decided to buy a new one 2 months ago an automatic 1.6 due to my fiancee lack of movement in her left side of her arm muscles. So car was great until i noticed this juddering when taking away from 1st and 2nd gear and turning corners ,also noticed a lack of power .

It went back to Ford and they done a "PCM upgrade on it so far nothing wrong however ave heard not on this forum that it fails and people getting new clutches ? Has anyone had this PCM update had has it being sucessfully ? Also noticed when u go in full lock with the steering wheel and let go there is a hissing sound like a wheel loosing pressure  Sorry for the long story

Our 2014 1.6 Zetec Powershift started doing this.

After some research the problem is mostly caused by faulty gearbox shaft seals that let hot oil vapour through onto the clutch packs.

Software updates will not fix this.

When I took the research to the dealer they admitted they knew about it so the seals & clutch packs were replaced.

Wait while your car starts doing it again, usually after a 30 - 40 minute journey, and book it in.

They have to go through Ford's diagnostic procedure to 'prove' its excessive juddering so I had to let them drive the car for a few days.

The parts are often on back order so it took a week to get them.

They may offer a clutch pack clean & seal replacement but our dealer said this rarely cures the problem.

So far ours is running sweet after fixing.

I was also told the warranty on Powershift boxes in the UK is now 5 years whatever your existing warranty is.

Thanks for your reply . Next time al be going a 40 min journey will be when i go to Liverpool at the end of the month . Look forward to my clutch failing on me [emoji23] ko . Thanks for you advise i will take it back if the problem occurs again . Ave got a feeling a software fix wouldn't fix a mechanical fault [emoji58]

I had a hire car in Cyprus this was an Auto , it was juddering at pulling away from a standstill , damn awful car to drive. Great shame but manual is superb as i have one here in UK. Ford need to work on this design of box as clearly not up to its job.

You would thought this would be a recall or something if it was a known fault ?

We have 2 Fiestas with Powershift.

My 2015 Fiesta with 2000 miles has not shown any sign of the problem.

The PS box is great to drive and has no inherent fault except the half shaft seals which I understand have been re-designed.

So if the seals are fine the gear change is fine hence no need for a recall.

So Marshy, if it does it again, just return the car to them and let them keep it until it's fixed.

Take print outs of these replies to reinforce the point.

BTW we got a courtesy car. My dealer said Ford would be in touch to replace it with a Ford hire car.

Trouble is Ford hire wanted a £100 deposit up front!

I told them it wasn't my fault the parts were out of stock so refused their hire car and kept the courtesy car instead.

Ford hire need to up their game and provide a better no quibble service when it's a warranty issue.
