Help! New Driver!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

New to this forum and driving and hoping someone can help me with this. So I went to start my car this morning(after a cold night here, frost on windows) the car didn't start. I came back this afternoon and found it still wouldn't start. The engine management was showing whenever I tried to turn the ignition, I searched a couple of forums and one said to change the engine oil so I filled this up and hurrah!! It worked again and is running fine to this point.

However now I have realised that the button for the boot within the car and on key fob doesn't work. I don't want to go in to the mechanics not having a clue what the issue is as they will smell my cluelessness from a mile away (=£££££) so I'm hoping for a couple of suggestions as to what it could be??

Thanks in advance for any replies. BTW it's a Ford Fiesta Zetec Climate 2007 mk6

How changing the oil made the car start is beyond me, but you live & learn.

I have known some cars where if the oil level is too low the engine won't start as an engine safety precaution - clever idea in some ways especially when cars are not maintained / serviced correctly

I was unaware that the Fiesta has this function though - or is it just coincidence ?

I don't think the op changed the oil - just topped it up

I presume you don't have a ODB car diagnostic reader?

If you can get your hands on one, plug it into the ODB port, and see what error codes/messages are displayed? That's something I would personally do as a first instance.
