Thats right and it means nothing to anyone when trying to order parts!

They all want a 4 letter/digit number

By VIN plate you mean the one in the drivers door opening?

Yep, look at the plate and you will see up to 8 small boxs on left, engine code is the 3rd box down

I'm trying to check if my engine is original, I have the VIN number, where on the engine is the engine Id located? 1.8 diesel, 2009 mondeo, thank you
