Dipped Beam Problem

Featured Replies

Hi All

I recently fitted Night Breaker Unlimited bulbs to both main and dipped lights, to improve light output for the winter.

Didn't really encounter any problems fitting the bulbs, main beam was a bit fiddly, and fitting the passenger light back into the body took a few attempts.

The problem I have is that the dipped beams appear to be lower than they were before fitting the new bulbs. Is it possible that I could have altered the beam adjustment while fitting the new bulbs.

Appreciate any advice you can offer.

Thank you.

Martin where did you get your night breaker unlimited for mains? Or do you have a titanium?

Hi,

I have a Zetec S. I purchased the mains (H1) from Autobulbs Direct.

did you put the bulbs in the right way? (Silly question but gotta check these things!)

Are you sure you havent just knocked the adjuster in the front?

If they are both level, it could be the bulb design lowering the light.

HI,

As far as I'm aware the bulbs are in the right way, good point though.

If I shine the lights against the garage door both beams appear to be at the same level.

To be honest, I didn't notice an adjuster. Could you tell me where it is located.

Thanks

Normally near the light controls there is a small rolling switch with numbers, that is the level of headlights smaller number. If you have it and want to know what it is I will explain, but if you see it then flick it to 0 and it should rise.

Hi,

Thanks for the information. I checked the switch and it is set to 0.

I think I'll take the lights out at the weekend and recheck everything. If I can't find anything I'll take it to a garage and get them adjusted.

Thanks for your help.

If I can't find anything I'll take it to a garage and get them adjusted.

This is what I did yesterday and they didn't even charge me, so it's well worth taking it to Ford if you haven't already. I had mine adjusted at an independent garage a few months ago but thought the driver's side dipped beam might be too high, but after they checked it yesterday they found it was slightly too low so adjusted it a bit, although the nearside one was spot on.

Has anyone else noticed that the driver's side headlight sometimes looks brighter when you see a reflection of the lights in another car? This is what was concerning me because I thought I might be dazzling other drivers, but I think it might just be because of the light pattern with the cut-off going up horizontally.

Hi Phil,

I've got my car booked in for a brake check soon and will get the alignment checked at the same time.

I noticed last night on my way home from work, that the driver's side headlight did look brighter, although to date have not been flashed. Can only assume it is the light pattern, as you suggest.

^ I think I was flashed once a while back but it could have been accidental, like he thought he was turning off his full beam or something (I've made that mistake before). If nobody else flashes me then I'll assume it's ok, especially when the lights were adjusted at a Ford dealership.

The driver side always appears brighter because it points straight ahead.

The passenger side is aimed left of centre to illuminate kerbs/signs etc.

^ That makes sense, looks like I was worrying about nothing then. I thought it was just the "kick-up" that was further over on the nearside. That just goes to show how bad it is when people drive around with only one working headlight - either you can't see where you're going or you can't see what's on the pavement next to you.

Or when they use their fog lights to compensate for the lack of a bulb - drives me mad!
