Dashcam Hardwire

Featured Replies

Finally got around to wiring up my dash cam, works perfect but just wanted to check I've done it properly as the last thing I want is the car going up in smoke! I bought this to make life easier: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/nextbase-dash-cam-hardwire-kit-a45tx

I've got the piggyback in fuse slot 6 behind the glove box - rear wiper fuse. Top fuse for dash cam and the fuse I took out in the lower slot of the piggyback. Out of the piggyback adapter the wire goes upwards (this is the way I was told to do it on the fiesta so that non of the fuses get bypassed).

Then for the ground I undid a bolt on the metal plate above, attached the spade connector to it and then tightened the bolt. Then I've tucked any excess wire and the little black box down the left hand side between the body and the glovebox.

All perfectly fine from what I see.

To double check the terminal alignment just pull the bottom fuse.

If the camera still powers up rotate the tap 180 degrees.

If I pull the fuse nearest the fuse box then the rear wiper doesn't work, is this right?

You need to check if the camera powers up too.

If it does when the bottom fuse is out then you need to turn the tap around.

All sorted, when fuse is removed for the dash cam it doesn't turn on, and multimeter shows no current meaning everything is wired up properly. Thanks for all your help - just get a bit nervous when fiddling with a brand new car!

Would you suggest removing it whenever the car goes into Ford or won't they care?

Shouldn't be a problem but wouldn't hurt to do so to save them whining.

Why the rear wiper fuse?

Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC

The rear wiper fuse is an ignition live feed so a camera will power up automatically once the ignition is on thus avoiding draining the battery if left for a few days.

Most Ford lighter sockets are permanent live only and I have found that some dash camera power feeds can interfere with the remote locking module/aerial causing intermittent lock/unlock cycles.

Piggyback off the airbag fuse, can't remember the fuse number.
