Help Me Please Anyone

Featured Replies

hi thanks for any replaced iam having a night mare with this problem ok so illl start from the begin.

was on a hill for about 2 hours stop start and i had a bad smell come through my vents which i was told is the clutch over heats next day the clutch started to slip intermittently so when i got home i got a mechanic to put a new valeo clutch in which cured the problem for 2 week ish then the problem return so he thorught i could be the master cylinder so he change that still the same so he changed the pipe still the same anyway no to the problem.

the problem is when i put my foot down in 3rd 4th 5th gear the clutch seem to slip but then after 500-700 rpms re grabs and then pull all the way with no other slips but we have changed everything and the dual mass has been looked at now this all started from the over heating problem dose anyone have any idea of what this could be ???? thanks for any reply and if anyone had anything similar please help thanks.

my can is a 1.8 tdci ford focus estate year is 08 but i think it was made 2007 its got 10100 miles on it cheers

did you replace the clutch bearing and the Dual mass flywheel also?

  • Author

nope the dual mass was only change about a year ago for an luk same as the clutch as as well as in for the clutch bear would that of come in a 3 peice clutch.

when the clutch was changed it stopped the slipping after 2 week its started slipping again but only when i put my foot down and above 1800rpm

here a video of it https://goo.gl/photos/YRUwFqRfZ2UGUHqe6

best to do it all duel mass can give up anytime I had one go on a Mondeo after only 22k

miles

well that mean that its only last about 7k miles the mechanic did check the dualmass and said that there is no play in it so i was hoping that its not that could it be a bearing maybe any way there is a video there have a look thanks again for any reply's

cant tell 100% from the video but it sounds like you got alot of hissing when turbo kicks in? if so you might want to check the intercooler pipes

When you burned the clutch you probably glazed the flywheel surface reducing the friction and causing slipping.

I can't image what you would be doing, but if this statement is correct I am wondering if the fly wheel could be distorted, due to heat.

cheers for all the reply's i have found a very similar case with a citron c5 which turned out to be the oil seal which would make sense as it dose it more when the engine is hot.

anyway thank for all the reply's 3-4 heads are better than one.

Ooh, an oil seal leak will definitely make a clutch slip and contaminate the friction plate badly.

Full clutch job again though.

If the clutch is slipping then there can only be a few ways that can make it slip.

One the clutch plate is worn.

Two the clutch plate is glazed from the overheat hence why it only does it at certain rev's for a short period.

Three the slave cylinder is leaking hydraulic fluid and this is contaminating the clutch plate.

As said you say you were in stop start traffic on a hill for 2 hours and you caused the clutch to smell? How did you burn the clutch in stop start traffic? You should be able to be in stop start traffic for hours without burning a clutch plate unless you are riding the clutch and holding it on the biting point rather than taking it out of gear and using the handbrake.

If the smell was indeed burning of the friction plate, you would know it was the clutch as it is a nasty horrid acrid smell and stinks like buggery.

I've burnt out a few clutches in my time (work cars not mine).

They always smelled like a mix between burning rubber and overcooked fish to me.

Love the analogy sounds a pretty good combination of horrid smells that would probably smell like a burning clutch plate lol

Aye, It's a nasty smell that persists for ages.

Happy to say that one clutch I burnt out was on an 6 month old Astra patrol car.

(Tbh, I actually quite enjoyed doing it).

I don't know if it's the way driving is taught these days but most people don't seem to know what the handbrake is for.

or mirrors, or indicators, or the speedometer , or headlights, or foglights - the list is endless

i did not sit this riding the clutch i did use the handbrake as well as my mirror the there was an over turned caravan plus road works so it was moving in inches and and the hill was very steep and made there is another under line problem with the transmission.

Hello Anthony

What is the "Underlying" issue with the Drivetrain ?

i really don't know the transmission is be taken back out next week the garage have check the the fly wheel but as a quick up date its now doing it in 2nd and 3rd as well and i don't have to put my foot all the way down now so its getting worse i suppose it will come to a head at some point

I'm sure you don't mean that :-)

The clutches on the work vans smell like rotten fish heated up if you ride it or have to start on too steep of a hill. Seems to last a good few hours and can be smelt from a long way away too!

It's ok, I've cooked two clutches on my works ST so far too.

I'm an equal opportunities clutch killer ;)

Works ST?

Your work has too much money to burn ;-)

It's because I'm an advanced response trained dog handler.

Astra vs ST is in no way equal!!

You need a new mantra: "This is not an Astra, this is NOT an Astra!"

:D

Just to clarify, are you saying you kill clutches because you're a dog handler? :)
