Ford Ka 06 Water Pump

Featured Replies

Hello chaps,

Me thinks my water pump is about to die :(

I have looked one up for £25 but I am not sure how much it will cost to replace it.

I am not really a car guy so replacing it myself is not coming into play.

I get a grinding noise sometimes and weird water flow sounds, like it flows and stops, flows and stops and so on. This speeds up on higher revs.

And this might be also why the temperature of the coolant almost never goes below 90C...

Anyone with any experience on replacing the water pump and the cost of it?

Much appreciated!

about a hour to 130 mins to do i think so best to phone around local garages in your area for prices.if your not confident to do yourself then pay a garage to do it as you need to remove the aux belt etc

1 hour the most, only aux belt off , 3 bolts holding pulley to pump, and 3 bolts for the pump.

1 hour the most if your experiance in doing the job? Then you need to replace the water in the rad and bleed the system. thanks for the heads up ian.

I was saying an hour as he was looking like getting garage to do the work

Yeah, got a local garage that can do it for me. But the guy is off since Wednesday and back on Tuesday.

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.

But, there is another problem I found which concerned me. I had problems with my Odometer not displaying correctly as you may have read the post before, I had also the case of my radio buzzing and popping/turning off - My dad told me it might me the Negative on the battery attached to car's body. I have moved the cable a little bit to see if it is all solid, and emm. I had 99873 miles on the clock and now it shows mileage clearly again, but it went back to 98k !!!

Is there something I need to know about the Ka I don't??

sounds like the car need a service.i would get it done ready for winter if it has not been done already

service was done on the car 2 months ago. Belts/liquids changed/spark plugs/filters etc...

  • Solution

must be the water pump thats noisy. did you have the car serviced or did you take the word of the seller or garage..

  • Author

sent you a private message delboy - can you answer there if possible, cheers.

But yeah, the car drove and worked a bit differently after service so I trust they have done their job correctly. The CAR also passed MOT first time, no advisories. Done it at Halfords, Gloucester.

halfords are fussy on passing a mot to sounds good .

It kind of sounds like it has a vacuum leak somewhere.

Yeah, left the bad boy Ka at my garage. They're taking a look at it.

Guy said it might actually be the thermostat

The pump bearing was actually restricting the pump. It has been replaced now - temperature while moving doesn't go above 89C

Put some of that Wynn's magic into the oil, we'll see if it makes a difference.

Thanks for helping me out on this matter chaps, much appreciated.

the wynns tappet additive may take a couple of hundred miles before you notice any diffrence but it really does work. glad you got it sorted and back on the road. what was the time they took to do it & the price charged as handy to know for future ref

My car stayed at the garage for around 4 hours. Don't know how much time it actually took them. £70 parts inc.

It's a Polish chap, all our friends use him for years now so we get discount ;D

Also, in that £70, he replaced the Negative cable connected to the car body and cleaned everything as it looks that my tappet cover or what ever it is called leaks oil (seal).

At halfords for example, they would charge me around £200 parts inc. they guy said.

Thanks again guys!

Hmm, just started to get a weird noise when the engine is cold.

Sort of squeeky sound like a bearing without lubrication or something.

It goes away when the car warms up.

Any ideas?

It's probably the water pump. Ask him if he swapped it for a new one or a recon. The auxiliary belt can fray and cause a squeak too. Possibly oily/greasy pulley but unlikely When I changed mine I put a new belt on (Street ka) It's about 90 min job for water pump and belt if it's a home repair or 1 hour at a Ford garage. Check if he put in at least 50% antifreeze mix .

Yeah, he swapped for a new one.

Might the belt I guess

In the end, didn't get it sorted with the belt, as the mechanic wanted £30 for the fix -,-

It is the belt, too tight. As it loosens up (warms up) it stops making the noise...

Had my friend check it out, who is opening a garage soon.

Will probably get it sorted sometime next month, as I don't have a free day at the moment :(

Sorry for the late response guys.
