Start / Stop

Featured Replies

Would anyone know why the Start / Stop feature on my Fiesta only works occasionally ? it will not for several weeks or if I go on a long journey , yet this morning I just went a few miles and it worked .

I have taken the car back to Bristol Street Motors yet they do not know what the problem is nor do Ford , I have had a new battery fitted yet the problem continues .

There are quite a few "boxes" which have to be ticked for the car to engage stop start.

Can't be too hot

Can't be too cold

Can't have too much power draw from accessories/equipment

A/C cycle affects it

Battery level must be above a certain level

and more I can't think of at the moment.

I wouldn't worry about it.

I also have this on my car. It's more annoying than anything, simply because mum and dads car is stop start all the time, mine intermittent/once in a blue moon. If it's there I want it to be there all the time or else it's pointless having it on

Just turn it off and enjoy.

I would reset battery monitoring and try again, mine has days when it doesnt work, but ive now figured out why on mine, my driving style can affect it.

Can you expand on this please, when you say driving style, how??? Erratic driving/to slow etc etc. I change gear at around 2000-3000 rpm, and coast before using the brakes and also use the gears to slow car down... all learned from driving a knackered old scraper tractor with no brakes and debatable steering

Well, I try to keep at a steady light throttle most of my journey to work and back, not accelerating hard, but also not much time is off throttle coasting on whole journey. This economical way of driving gives me up to 60mpg,

Its the off throttle time is when the alternator charges battery, not enough and battery doesnt charge up sufficiently to enable stop start.

Drive harder with frequent off throttle occasions slowing then stop start works as battery is charged sufficiently.

Mine works faultlessly all the time. Check on ETIS to see if you have regenerative braking. Mine has and maybe that's a difference.

You shouldn't use gear braking. It wears down the various gearbox parts, especially the synchros. This is expensive to repair. It's better to use brakes for braking (hence the name). They are much cheaper and easier to replace/fix.

Anyone know if it's possible to turn off start/stop permanently? It's annoying having to turn it off every time I start the car.

im lead to believe its possible using fords ids diagnostic equipment.

My Fiesta is the third car I've had with Stop/Start and it's by far the best. I've had it on a Vauxhall Astra and a Vauxhall Insignia and hated them both. The first thing I asked when picking my car up was how to switch off the Stop/Start but forgot to do it and I'm glad that I did because it has given me no problem at all.

Won't affect me for a very long time yet, cars just done 32000 miles, it's going next year + the amount of miles I do a year - 6000, the affects are negligible.
