What I have done is so very easy to do I just removed the standard capless bulb out of the holder and put the new LED bulb in after bending the legs out so that they could be soldered onto the bulb holder.

As for the large round LED cluster a small slit needs to be cut into the light unit to allow the LED cluster to fit into the space then wires need to be soldered on to the legs and run to the bulb holder.

These LED lights produce more light than the nasty W5 cap less bulb and draw less power also the light produced is better to work under due to the colour.

Although the LED lights I have used are made for the home environment 12volt down lights they have been fine in my car even when the voltage is at 14 V as I have had 2 of the round LED clusters in the rear headlining for a few weeks now and made a point of leaving them of during the day whilst driving about.

You do know you can buy LED W5 (501) bulbs that are just plug in, don't need soldering or modifying to fit and similar price or cheaper.

Oh, yes.

And the reason I went this way was that the ones you can buy are crap as they produce blue light and don't usually last long as they are made to a very low standard.

I have bought expensive bulbs from Auto bulbs direct and cheep ones from Amazon and Ebay and the result was not happy with the colour temperature of the light produced as I write up paper work in my car I am a bit more fussy than most.

This seems like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. I swapped all my interior bulbs for LED bulbs from ebay that came with the right fitting and they're great, nice and bright and not blue in the slightest - the colour bears no reflection of the quality, you just need to buy the right ones. I'm pretty picky myself, but you can achieve the same result without the unnecessary work.

With regards to quality, an LED bulb either works or it doesn't and if it does its likely to last as long as you have the car - I've yet to have one fail and if it does its only a couple of pounds to replace without the hassle of soldering or modifying anything.

I'm pleased you're happy though and I'm sure someone will find this helpful :)

The statement you make about the bulbs either work or don't is not quite true as Ebay and Amazon in particular have a lot of sellers from the far east that make copies of working products but to a very poor standard so yes they may work for a while then they stop working well before they should they also don't give you true information about the product you are buying hence why I ended up with lots of nasty blue light some have a much lighter tint to them which I would describe as clinical looking. I used to work in a production environment and dealt with companies whom got there products from the far easy and all I can say is that you need to test every thing they give you because they don't have any sort of production standards like we do in this country.

I would agree that my solution is somewhat beyond the average forum member and I forget that at times as I am used to going into things quite in depth.
