Ghia Interior Light Bulbs?

Featured Replies

Hi, I just bought a Fiesta Ghia mk6 (possibly mk6.5?), its a 55 but says 2006 on the papers.

It apears it has 2 extra bulbs than on the non Ghia version and i want to replace all 3 of them.

Ive been trying to find the correct bulbs (searching forums/google) to buy for it but can not find the correct bulb, I want to buy LEDs for the centre light and LEDs for the reading/map lights.

Could some one please tell me the correct bulbs to get? and do they need to be canbus LEDs?

Thanks

This is a picture of the light...

the mk6 & mk6.5 fiesta does not have CANBUS so you dont need the CANBUS LEDs. Although, if you do not buy a CANBUS LED then the centre light will glow when the light should be switched off. this is because the interior light operates using a switched earth so it always has power going to it.

Using the FIESTA BULB LIST found here on the forum http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/40923-fiesta-bulbs-list/

we can see that The centre light is a "265 Festoon bulb" or in English, A 44mm Festoon bulb.

The side ones are "501 Bayonet t10" such as this one

Thats great! thank you, I almost bought a non CANBUS LED 42 festoon for the middle one and w5w 501 bulbs for the side (reading/map) lights! (did not even know bayonet ones existed)

Close guesses! But not quite there :)

Any questions don't hesitate to ask! Also, Remember LEDs are a fixed polarity, so if the festoon bulb doesn't work, turn it around

If the Map lights don't work (mine didn't) then you'll have to rewire the rear of the light or buy different bulbs. I went for rewiring the light

Thanks for the tips. When you say the map lights not working, do you mean the new bulbs that I buy or the actual light itself? The left one works, the right doesnt but im going to replace both with LEDs. Ill order the ones you sent in the link, hopefully they will work. If it doesnt, how hard is it to rewire?

I mean the new bulbs :)

Obviously a Bayonet fitting has the + on the pointy base & the - on the casing itself or vice Versa. This is something you can't really change.

To rewire the fitting, simply cut through the tracks at the back of the light & solder some wires to bridge the gaps, whilst crossing the two tracks over to swap the polarity :)

Lets just hope i wont have to do that!

Do not have that much experience with DIY/rewiring.

The reason the Led faintly glows when fitted into a mk6 fiesta is because there is a capacitor that controls the soft dimming. If you stick a resistor (can't remember the value off the top of my head) it will drain the excess current that keeps it glowing and will operate normally.

The canbus bulbs have a resistor built into them. If not you have to play around to find the correct value so you don't loose too much brightness but you stop the glow
