There's quite a few guides on here. Generally it's to reduce road and wind noise and to improve the tightness of the speakers (less boomy and muddy sound). It's a pretty big project even if you don't plan to go all out.

He went all out though, mine was very minimal compared to that, but did make a noticeable difference to cabin noise and audio quality. I made a thread documenting some of my process:

 

I used silenTcoat sound deadening in the fiesta. Makes a huge difference
