Streetka Common Leak Points

Featured Replies

Since I bought my Streetka just the drivers side carpet sponge is continually wet.

I have silicone sealed and removed the scuttle round the windows and checked the sunroof for leaks , removed and checked the pollen filter and sealed around the AC pipes to no avail.

Anyone got any ideas where the common leaks on this Pregnant Rollerskate usually eminate from?

Hmm after some checking

Ford has released a list of seven different places the water ingress could be coming from.

1. THE AIR DUCT BEHIND THE SCUTTLE PANEL (NOT ENOUGH SEALER)

2. THE SEAM IN THE FENDOR UNDER THE SCUTTLE PANEL (NOT ENOUGH SEALER)

3. THE ABS WIRING GROMMET (COMES LOOSE)

4. THE PEDAL BOX GROMMETS (COME LOOSE)

5. THE WEATHER STRIP AROUND THE DOOR (NOT ENOUGH SEALER ON BOTTOM)

6. THE SEAM IN THE REAR FOOTWELL BEHIND THE PRE-TENSIONER (NOT ENOUGH SEALER)

7. MODELS WITH AIR CON HAVE A LEAK OFF PIPE FROM THE UNIT GOING OUT THE FLOOR NEXT TO THE CLUTCH PEDAL LEAKS OUT THE TOP OF THE PIPE ON TO THE FLOOR (REQUIRES TAPE TO SEAL) this is the one it tends to be causing the problem.

Anyone got a definitive answer for the STREETKA?

I guess its out with the talcum powder and hair dryer then!

harrumph

i would remove all the carpet underlay and driy it out properly as it will eventually start to smell if the mould get into it. had it with an old escort that got wet the dried out over the summer then winter came and it got damp and started to smell due to the mould be re activated. i hope you solve the problem out.

dont forget to let us know what it turns out to be

Yes i think you are right from what i have read and the actual smell in the car when i bought it i thought someone had done a whoopsy in the bloomin thing!

Big job to lift the whole thing - i might just lift the wet bit and use the garage paint blower/heater on it.

I will take a few photos - thinking of doing a youtube Streetka video blog there are so many bloomin problems and no one has done the Streetka on youtube - hmmm i wonder why!

>;o~)

A blog sound a good idea it may help people with simple fixes. Street ka's are becoming a rare endangered spieces. Keep them going with a blog brill 💡 idea.

Hope you fix your damp carpet too.

You could get a jet wash and another person to watch where water enters then seal the gap. Quick fix.

Simple fixes - you cheeky bvgger!

lol

I built my first kit car when I was 18 - with my dads help of course he was the onyl one with a cummel to lift the engine in.

Ive rebuilt more Ford Escort xflow engines than ive had hot dinners lol

Yeah ijet wash - mentioned the talcum powder test above.

No need for another person when you use the talcum powder method.

Its the most reliable way ive found to find the leaks.

We shall see this weekend its kinda off the road at the mo it sprung a fuel leak now!

Tlc is all you need :-) I asked my wife is she preferred an MX5 instead. She replied those ugly things..no I like my Street ka....The back lights and dynamic cures on the boot are similar to a Porsche. Pinot Ferrino certainly did a good job but was also well paid by ford.at the time. There is no way a deal like that could happen in todays world.

Pinot Ferrino . . ?

Sounds like grim Italian wine :)

The founders name was ( Battista ) Pinin Farina

The one I have is an 05 Ford Street KA in Silver

Convertible with Designer Red Pininfarina Leather seats...This is a nice touch. It also has reversing sensors ford factory fitted. These come in handy when the wife drives.

Got any photies - like to see those seats?

Got some photies from todays task - the drivers seat actually came out very easily.

Looks like the leak just from todays short test is number 5 on the Ford advisory.

5. THE WEATHER STRIP AROUND THE DOOR (NOT ENOUGH SEALER ON BOTTOM)

Also found my fuel problem and possibly one of the reasons these cars burn a lot of fuel and another guy along the road from me who owns exactly the same car told me today that Ford garage says its the egress line from the fuel filter develops a fault and doesnt grip the pipe properly and the fuel leaks out - only noticeable if you smell it and it being near the fuel filler not many people do but it was pishing out today when i turned it over and the fuel pump pressure is pretty high so i reckon my fuel pump is ok - phew. I have sealed it with gasket sealant = hopefully that will work until i can find out where to get a replacement fuel pipe.

Its the pipe that goes to the engine (egress line) - goes up into the fuel tank area so cant see if it connects to a metal line or just goes all the wayto the engine.

Next now the drivers seat is out is to check the heated seats - tomorrow.

I will post a few pics in case it helps anyone else but didnt have my gopro so coulndt do my vid for youtube bummer.

Next weekend though.

Hi okay I have taken some pics showing the red leather seats and also rear sensors. File to big for this site so here is a link. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ynyw24l85fm5347/AABKeL5vilQlk-vL14hkSwO9a?dl=0

Carpet up and a bonus £0.72p in change found - I wonder how much money we lose down the sides of our car seats over the years lol

Power to the heated seats is 14.3v on both and seat wiring is fine so looks like gubbed seat heaters.

Probably an arm and a leg so cold bum from now on!

>;o)

Sealant on the fuel filter and a tight circlip round the end seems to have done the trick so no more fuel leaks!

Been a day of cheap fixes than goodness!

This looks like the leak point.

Not sure how to fix this leak though or actually where the leak is entering - any ideas Andy?

I notice the bottom of the door has two square shaped holes where i assume the water leaks out and it looks like its funneled down the rubber seals at the front of the window and soft top.

Apparently this fault is non fixable and that comes from a Ford Engineer.

http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=291175

So challenge is on!

i would get a good quality black roof repair mastic and apply it where ever you think water is getting in. sounds like it running inside the rubber seal and working its way into the car. also check the door frame is a tight fit around the door or you may need to pull the top of the door (tweak) the door in as

you never know it maybe slightly bent out

  • Author

Thanks Del , yes i found the problem (i think) its the rubber seal , apparently it becomes loose over time with the electric window moving up and down it eventually moves away from the window.

The fix was to insert a plastic pipe into the rubber seal as its hollow - this expands the rubber so it now makes contact with the window and seal so its tight now - been raining all day and it looks like no more water has gotten in but cant be sure so leaving it for a few nights to see what happens , if that doesnt work then have to use some rubber sealant.

Apparently it might also be because water gets into the inside of the door down the outside of the window - there are two small square holes which i believe are the drain holes in the bottom of the door - on first look it seemed to me the water is pouring in from these holes and running over the bottom plate and into the car - if they get blocked then the water may run into the car but thats a long shot!

ahh that sounds like it as had same on an old escort many moons ago. if it dont work perhaps look for a better set of door/window rubbers as they go hard with age

Glad you fixed it. You could have adjusted window hight via a sprung screw inside door card to make it flush with top rubber seals. It adjusts about 3 cm in either direction. There are 3 top rubber seals and they slide out from the roof frame. They do get squashed so the rubber tube was a brill idea. But if it still leaks use adjuster screw.

Thanks Andy thats a handy one to know - is it in the Ford TIS 2004?

No it's the free ford online manual. It's always been helpful so far.
